Kashmir silk carpets are ranked among the most opulent handmade textiles in the world, woven in the Kashmir region of northern India, primarily around the city of Srinagar. The craft was introduced to Kashmir in the 15th century during the reign of Sultan Zain-ul-Abidin (1420–1470 AD), who invited master weavers from Persia and Central Asia. Consequently, the industry has been profoundly shaped by the Persian school in both design and structural technique.

Design & Visual Features: Famous for iconic Persian motifs, such as the Tree of Life, central medallions (Lachak and Toranj), Persian garden layouts, delicate floral sprays, avian and animal drawings, and dynamic hunting scenes.
Materials & Technique: The absolute finest grade utilizes pure natural silk on a silk foundation (Silk on Silk), while the more widely distributed commercial variety features silk pile on a cotton foundation (Silk on Cotton). Weavers employ the asymmetrical Persian knot (Senneh or Farsi Baff), which permits highly fluid and intricate details.
